RICHMOND, Va. –The Saint Joseph’s baseball team opened its weekend series at VCU Friday night, losing to the Rams 7-2.
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
• Neither team broke through the first two innings, but VCU (21-15 overall, 6-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board with two outs in the third on a two-run single from Logan Amiss .
• The Rams extended their lead in the fifth, scoring five times.
• Saint Joseph’s (20-15 overall, 6-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board with two in the eighth on an RBI single by Andre Cossetti and the choice of a defender by Brandon Flagbut the Hawks wouldn’t come close.
BEHIND THE SCORE BOX
• Maddison Furman picked up the win for VCU, while Ian McCole took the loss for SJU.
• Nick Torres and Sam Davies combined for 3.2 shutout innings to end the game, striking out five between them without giving up a hit.
• Conlan’s Wall led the Hawks with two hits, while Brendan Hueth was on board three times with a hit and two walks.
