Transfer insider Dean Jones has provided an update on Manchester United management, verifying the name of Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, GiveMeSport report.
The Lowdown: Four candidates?
The Red Devils appear to be getting a head start on what could be a major summer upset, with the Old Trafford chiefs talking to Ten Hag earlier this month.
Ten Hag at Old Trafford?
Yes, let him in!
No, we can do better!
Talks with the Dutchman have been deemed ‘positive’, however, the 52-year-old isn’t the only boss on United’s radar.
Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique are also believed to be options to replace Ralf Rangnick this summer, with the caretaker boss set to move into a consultancy role.
The latest: Jones’ comments
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones believes Ten Hag is the “likeliest” appointment over the next few months and revealed that the end of the current international break is crucial in terms of the direction in which United head.
“I still think it will probably be ten Hag, but no decision has been announced yet. The aim was that at the end of this international break, at least the members of the club would know where they were heading, and then they would announce it publicly later.
The verdict: More talks soon?
Ten Hag is the only manager we know of at the moment that United have spoken to, so you’d expect the Red Devils chiefs to be extremely busy over the next few weeks.
They may decide to talk with Pochettino, Lopetegui and Enrique or even talk more with Ten Hag, especially since he has recently been approach by two other clubs.
Having a new manager in place before the summer would be extremely handy, as it would give him time to analyze the team and discuss possible targets with Rangnick. Hopefully the club can strike a deal before the end of May and avoid the chaos of entering the transfer market without a proper structure in place first.
