Women’s tennis drops first match in close encounter with Washington College

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The Ithaca College women’s tennis team lost a close encounter to Washington College in their second match of their spring break trip on Tuesday. The Shoreman defeated IC by a score of 5-4 as it was the first ever meeting between the two schools.

The game opened with the Bombers winning two of three doubles games. Taylor Crain and Laurent Rodriguez handed Irene Meng and Piper Sartison an 8-5 loss in first place. The duo of Rebecca Andrews and Kayla Shenk defeated the Shoreman’s No. 3 team by a score of 8-4. Washington College won doubles match #2 Zoe Davis and Eliana Chelnick in a very tight game.

Crain was beaten in first place, 5-7 and 4-6. Alisha White won No. 2 in singles Laurent Rodriguez, 4-6, 3-6. Washington College took the lead by taking the third flight of singles play before Ithaca Zoe Davis won a close game. The junior took the win 6-4, 6-3 against Ngyugen. IC got the win by default in the sixth flight after Ekaterina Kelly dropped singles match No. 4 to Kathryn Rupert, 2-6, 2-6.

Ithaca will face LeTourneau University Wednesday at 4 p.m. in their third game at Hilton Head.
